This shirt design was inspired by decorative scroll, such of that used in ancient artwork. I was going for a stronger almost goddess type feel as if this face had been sculpted from stone. The original is entirely done with a Japanese paint pen on a 19″ by 24″ heavy weight Bristol paper. Artworks screen printed in green on acid washed kelly green American Apparel summer shirt.
Circle Flip Logo
I created the CEM font to be read when flipped over as CEM also. I used the CEM logo flipped each way and repeated them five times. The original’s done in pen and ink on a Bristol paper, to check it out click here.
The meaning of mandala originated from Sanskrit and means “circle”. Mandalas are made from overlapping circles with squares, triangles and endless amounts of geometric designs that can be created inside them. Mandalas symbolize unity and harmony along with balancing visual elements. I designed this face from eliminating lines from a mandala pattern. Everything from the eyes, nose, teeth and even the hair spelling CEM is directly drawn from the mandala circles. This face would be eliminate by finishing the circles it’s created from. This shirt has a slightly evil feel which I felt was an interesting and uncommon way to portray a mandala. This ones painted with acrylic on a 18″ by 24″ board. Enjoy.
